Floor insulation is used for both thermal and sound insulation and is mounted in the interstitial spaces between floor panel and the underfloor panel. Rigid foam insulation is commonly used but all other forms of wall insulation may also be employed. Usually one or two layers are used, one 1m square and as thick as the gap between floor panel battens and the underfloor, the other 960mm square and 30mm thick and fitting within the volume inside the battens. (Soft materials will compress to fit) Reflector sheets may also be employed in support of radiant floor heating and channels can be custom-cut to accommodate in-floor utilities not routed through the floor framing itself.
